Why Overseas Producers Can't Undercut Atlas Salt, Even for Free

Cities are already running short on road salt, and winter hasn't even started. Some supply bids are going unanswered, prices have nearly doubled in parts of the market, and the backup plan is two weeks away by boat. Here's why Atlas Salt (TSXV: SALT | OTCQX: SALQF) can get salt to the people who need it most, faster and cheaper than anyone shipping from overseas:

• Three days by ship to Boston, not fourteen

• Shallow deposit that's cheaper and faster to mine

• Projected C$188M a year in free cash flow

• Export Development Canada interested in lending C$150M

• Early supply deal with top U.S. salt distributor

Thunder Bay police pause promoting Crime Stoppers while a data breach is investigated

A desk telephone beside a laptop in a quiet office

The Thunder Bay Police Service says it will stop recommending Crime Stoppers in its media releases while a cybersecurity incident at the national tip line's software provider is assessed. Canada's privacy commissioner opened an investigation on Oct. 27 into Navigate360, the company behind the platform, and a class action alleges the information and tips of at least 1.5 million Canadians were exposed. If you have information about a crime or a public safety concern, police ask you to call the non-emergency line at (807) 684-1200 or use their online reporting system.

The city says 30 people are now living at the shelter village, ahead of its target of 20 by Oct. 31. The site has 80 modular units, with an initial 40 to be open for occupancy by the end of November, and offers 24/7 staffing and connections to health care, addictions treatment and life skills supports. A neighbourhood liaison committee of nearby residents and business owners has been appointed and will begin meeting soon to gather public feedback. Occupancy targets and committee details are posted at thunderbay.ca/Village.
