Christmas hamper registration opens today for seniors, singles and couples

The Regional Food Distribution Association has launched its 12th annual Be the Reason for the Season campaign, which provides Christmas hampers to seniors, singles and couples who may not qualify for other hamper programs. Registration opens today: call 211 and ask for an RFDA Christmas hamper, and it stays open until Nov. 30. The group expects to give out between 1,000 and 1,200 hampers, and it needs donations of non-perishables and money, plus volunteers for the Dec. 15 and 16 deliveries. If you could use a hamper, call 211 before Nov. 30; hampers are handed out at the CLE Heritage Building on Dec. 11, with deliveries for anyone who can't pick theirs up.
An integrity commissioner recommends a 30-day pay suspension for an outgoing councillor

A report from the city's integrity commissioner found that outgoing at-large Coun. Rajni Agarwal engaged in an ongoing pattern of abusive conduct toward city staff, following a complaint filed by the city manager in March. The commissioner recommends that her pay be suspended for 30 days; the sanction would not stop her from attending meetings or carrying out her duties. Agarwal, who was not re-elected on Oct. 26, said in a statement that she is proud of her four years of advocacy for taxpayers and asked that the resolution pass without debate. Council decides whether to impose the sanction. The recommendation is on the Nov. 3 council agenda.

Brodie Street drops to one lane at times today for Victoria Avenue curb work

To install curbs on Victoria Avenue as part of the Reimagine Victoriaville project, the City says Brodie Street will be reduced to a single lane at various times today, Monday, with traffic control personnel and signage directing drivers through the work zone. If you drive that stretch, allow extra time or pick another route.

Thunderwolves down Guelph 75-68 for the new coach's first OUA win

Lakehead built a double-digit lead over the Guelph Gryphons at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse on Saturday night, then held on as Guelph clawed back to within three late in the fourth. Carson Unrau led the Thunderwolves with 18 points and blocked a three-point try with seconds to go, giving first-year coach Jon Campbell his first OUA win behind the bench.
