Hundreds ride for Dad — and for men’s health
It was a fitting Father’s Day weekend tradition: roughly 200 motorcycles roared off on the 24th annual Thunder Bay Motorcycle Ride for Dad on Saturday, raising money and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s health. Riders followed an 11-stop route — including a new tribute stop at the Hope and Memory Garden — capped by the signature “Roar for the Cure.”
Festival BONJOUR wraps a lively 15th edition
Waverley Park buzzed all weekend as Festival BONJOUR marked its 15th year of Franco-Ontarian music and culture. A packed Friday-night set from headliner LGS drew about 300 fans, and Saturday turned family-friendly with inflatables, roaming musicians, close-up magic and a story hour — before an evening concert lineup and a first-ever Après-Festi celebration.
Lakehead’s Starbucks corner becomes the Timber & Roast Bistro
A campus fixture is getting a refresh: the Starbucks corner in Lakehead University’s Agora will reopen this fall as the Timber & Roast Bistro. Starbucks coffee stays on the menu, but the switch lets the university and food provider Aramark add fresh-made flatbreads, wraps and salads, alongside new booths and comfy “third spaces” for students to gather and study.
A cheeky rescue: park staff free a stuck beaver at Kakabeka Falls
Talk about a memorable start to the workday. Staff at Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park sprang into action Thursday morning after a beaver wedged itself between the railings of a pedestrian bridge. Armed with a hooked pole and a gentle nudge, superintendent Mike Holm helped flip the critter free — and it scurried back to the wild, no worse for wear (apart from a little chewed decking).
