HARBOUR BEAT WEATHER

Monday opens with fog patches burning off through the morning, then stays cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers late in the afternoon — high of 19°C, UV index 6 (high). 'We built our own kites': Chippewa Park fills with colour

Hundreds of colourful kites took over the sky at Chippewa Park on Sunday for the City of Thunder Bay's annual Kite Festival — with live music, local artisans, community groups and bouncy castles rounding out a perfect family afternoon by the lake.

Manslaughter charge laid in the death of Kelsey Anderson

Thunder Bay Police have charged a 33-year-old city man with manslaughter in the death of 36-year-old Kelsey Anderson, who was reported missing in early May. Anderson's family has confirmed his passing and asked for privacy as they grieve.

Health-care trailblazers receive NOSM's first-ever honourary degrees

Elder Theresa Fiddler and Maureen Lacroix have been awarded the Northern Ontario School of Medicine's first honourary degrees — Fiddler for decades of Indigenous health advocacy that helped ground NOSM's curriculum in Anishinabe teachings, and Lacroix for helping bring cancer care to the North.

Nagar Kirtan brings music, service and unity to city streets

The Thunder Bay Sikh Society led a vibrant Nagar Kirtan procession from the Gurdwara Sahib on Spring Street to Intercity Shopping Centre on Sunday — filling the streets with hymns, free food and a message of service, community and equality.

Meme of the Day

When Environment Canada says "40 per cent chance of showers" — a true Thunder Bayer takes zero chances at the bus stop.
