HARBOUR BEAT WEATHER

A cooler, wetter turn for Thursday: mainly cloudy with a high near 19°C and a 60% chance of showers — with the risk of an afternoon thunderstorm rolling through. Keep an umbrella handy. Skies stay unsettled overnight, dropping to around 11°C with a few more showers possible. Hourly details at Environment Canada.

Intercity Shopping Centre has a new owner

Thunder Bay's biggest mall has changed hands. Montreal-based Leyad has purchased Intercity Shopping Centre from the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan, pledging to finish the new Sport Chek and court fresh national and international retailers — including for the long-empty former Sears space.

New garbage bins roll out across the city

Spotted a new bin at the curb? The city's new garbage bins are being delivered to households across Thunder Bay. Watch for details on when yours arrives and how to set it out on collection day.

Eight new doctors recruited to the city

Some welcome news for a city that's felt the family-doctor crunch: eight new physicians were recruited to Thunder Bay in 2025 — part of 23 doctors the CEDC has helped bring to town since 2023.

Cell upgrades may disrupt service — and 911 — in Shuniah

Heads up if you're in Shuniah: Tbaytel is upgrading the Silver Lake tower through June 8, and customers may lose voice, text and data during the work — including the ability to call 911 by cell. Have a backup plan to reach emergency services.

Meme of the Day

Thunder Bay weather forecast: 60% chance of rain, 100% chance someone says “well, the garden needed it.”
